Why Schools Choose This Work
Steer the way your community talks about you.
When your brand is clear, you do not control the conversation, you guide it.
The School Story Framework helps schools shape how their story is shared and understood. It gives staff, parents, and students the language and confidence to describe what makes the school distinct.
When you are done, you and your school community will notice:
Shared Story
Your story becomes easy for everyone to share.
Community Building
Families and staff who already share your school’s values are drawn in more easily.
Clear Communication
Every message feels consistent, confident, and community-building.
Focused Marketing
Creative work gains direction, structure, and purpose.
Reputation Management
Your reputation grows naturally from clarity, integrity, and authenticity.
“When schools understand and manage their brand, they communicate with confidence. Every message feels intentional, every design choice makes sense, and the story people tell about the school begins to match the one inside it.”
How It Works
A clear process built with empathy, community, and structure.
We begin with your community’s perspective, then move step by step toward a shared framework for how your school communicates. Each phase builds on the last so every message and visual connects back to your identity and purpose.
Every school is different, and depending on your scope each phase typically runs between six and ten weeks. Most branding projects span one to two semesters.
Phase 1: Discover
Understand how your community experiences your school.
We listen through workshops, interviews, and surveys to uncover key perceptions, motivations, and opportunities for alignment.
Phase 2: Define
Clarify your promise, proofs, and personality.
We distill research into your Brand Promise, Core Proofs, and Brand Personality, creating a foundation that guides every decision and expression.
Phase 3: Design
Translate findings and brand concepts into tools and systems.
We refine your language, visuals, and creative assets so every piece of communication, from campaigns to daily outreach, feels connected and purposeful.
Phase 4: Deliver
Launch with clarity and keep alignment strong.
We guide the rollout, train your team, and offer ongoing reflection sessions to ensure the system stays alive and effective.
Optional Add-ons: Some schools choose to extend the work beyond launch.
Reflection Consultations
We do not disappear at launch. You can always reach out with small questions or requests for advice. For schools that want a more structured follow-up, we offer ongoing reflection consultations. These check-ins help you evaluate how your brand management is performing, how your story is developing, and how larger campaigns can stay aligned with your brand framework.
Story Expression
Do you have larger projects, like campaigns or websites, that need art direction or design support? Once your brand strategy is complete, we know your brand well and can help you show it clearly. We do not build full websites, but we partner in an art director role with Finalsite to ensure your site stays on-brand and to contribute graphics or illustrations as needed.
The Final Deliverable
A True Conversation Starter
Defining your brand identity is only the beginning. The real work continues through intentional brand management.
The School ID Brand Guide is your roadmap for that ongoing conversation. It brings together audience insights, positioning, photography, and written-voice strategy into one clear reference. More than a visual guide, it is a practical tool for staying aligned and consistent across every interaction.
Brand management is an active dialogue between your school and its community. It requires clarity about identity and ongoing attention to how that identity is understood.
Our work follows the OWL Model: Ongoing Watching and Learning. We define identity, listen to perception, and refine communication so your story stays aligned with purpose.

Above are pages from the Western Academy of Beijing Brand Guide, showing the structure and intent behind a School ID Brand Guide. Each guide is unique to the school it serves, but all share the same goal: to help teams manage their brand with purpose and confidence.
The Western Academy of Beijing project was led by Matt Wehner, founder of School ID. Matt directed the full brand strategy process, from community workshops and brand framework development to book design, art direction, and implementation. The visual work was a collaboration with MEAT Studio Beijing, resulting in a complete brand and visual identity system that continues to guide WAB’s communications today.
